Welcome!

The Canton of Rivers Point is a local group that is part of the Barony of Caer Mear and the Kingdom of Atlantia in the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA).  The SCA is a non-profit organization where members study and recreate life in the middle ages.  We create a persona—members select a name, build their “story”, and research life in that time period.  The SCA is an international organization consisting of 19 kingdoms and approximately 30,000 members.

Throughout the year, different groups host events where everyone dresses “in garb” as his or her chosen persona.  One can expect to see Celts, Vikings, Normans, or Renaissance gentry; you might even see Slavs or Mongols!  At these events, there is usually armored combat, rapier tournaments, archery, artisan displays and competitions, classes offered on a variety of subjects, and an evening feast.  Sometimes there is even dancing or a bardic circle (singing and storytelling) around a roaring fire.

The SCA is a wonderful place for children. The SCA has a Page Academy where children learn the art of service and good manners.  Youth Activities are offered at many events; children play medieval games and learn hands-on Arts and Sciences crafts. Children are sometimes rewarded by royalty during court for their service and good deeds.

Our Canton

Rivers Point is made up of fun-loving, service-minded people with a variety of interests in all things medieval.  We are a warm and welcoming group with a deep sense of community.

Ways we recreate the Middles Ages include: the elegance of Royal Court, the chivalry of armored combat, the precision of a well-placed arrow, the quality of an attractive stitch on a handmade item, and the skill in recreating delicious medieval dishes and brewed beverages.  These are only a few of the ways we achieve satisfaction through serving others and the recognition of deeds well done.  Emotions like wonder, awe, and amazement polish and refine the experience, making it worth our time.

Is there a lot to learn?  Yes, because the mission of the SCA is about studying history and learning new skills.  Our Canton has Gathers twice a month to share food and learn skills by working on individual or group projects.  Within the Kingdom of Atlantia, there are Universities several times a year.  These events are strictly “learning events” where SCA members share their knowledge by teaching classes.  Our goals are to have fun and grow!

We enjoy serving our Barony and Kingdom and are proud to be Atlantians.  Where else can you better experience the SCA than with a relatively-small, caring group that wants nothing more than for you to succeed?
